A REQUEST TO GOD (Poem)

A request to God:
Keep going peace and integrity in the world
The pillars of love remain within the man you created
See our kneels,
Hear our wills,
Heal our bleedings,
Reading in our hearts,
Yelling out for peace.

Things change giving more space to tomorrow
The continuity of history and sorrow
That is the way we follow
The fellow you have created in your image
They have tarnished your visage
Keeping the culture of evil doing at a particular stage
As the easiest they can afford is rage
Candle light instead of umbrage.

You have created nice valleys
You have made the hills beautiful
For your sons to be peaceful
In Congo, Burundi, Ivory Cost and elsewhere
They only witness wars
God, save the world
Give us the healing word
Create a new man, for a peaceful world.

Look! People go to the Moon
They invaded Mars in the afternoon
It is hard to them to comprehend the incomprehensible
Slogans of peace in the presence of war
Science in the lack of conscience
Technology in the absence of psychology
Illusion of power that kills the masses
A mess yelling out for peace.

Orphans people the entire world,
Words of power culminating into genocide,
Victims of injustice without compensation,
Aguish in the first session,
Anguished free of reparation,
Stiff after relaxation,
How to fight against that?

My fingers scroll on that keyboard
As the touch of a professional prostitute!
That white blank page of my screen
Quite as the sound of the desert!
Becoming familiar with the arts,
Earth will not forget such facts,
If I express my ideology
Hey! Not a word of misology.

© I wrote and adapted this poem when there was no sun, nor rain in my single bedroom in Remera, somewhere in Kigali City as per Sunday, December 05, 2004 at 1:55 a.m. universal time between the night that was taking an end and the day that was rising. Is the world going well? My heart speaks inspired by on going wars. All copyrights reserved.

My name is Gilbertus Shema Shyaka Ndahayo. I am a university student at Kigali Institute of Education in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, majoring in History and English with Education. I was born somewhere in the village but I grow up in town. As a survivor of the biggest killings of the last millenium, the issue of lasting peace is of my concern.
